Server Icon

Give every Minecraft server its own icon in the multiplayer list, straight from the Settings page.

Server Icon | Pterodactyl v2

Requirements

  • Pterodactyl Panel v2.0 or newer (the extension system).
  • A Minecraft (Java) server. The box only shows on servers that have a server.properties or eula.txt file.
  • The user needs the server permission file.read to see the box.
  • Uploading an icon needs file.create and file.update; removing it needs file.delete.

Installation

The entire install happens in the Panel. There is nothing to upload to your nodes.

Step 1: Download the extension

Extract the product ZIP and keep both server-icon-1.0.1.pteroext (the installable build) and server-icon-source.zip (the editable source) if you want to customize the extension.

Step 2: Install in the Panel

  1. Sign in to your Panel as an administrator.
  2. Go to Admin → Extensions.
  3. Click Install and upload the .pteroext file.
  4. Toggle the extension on to enable it, then reload the page.

A Server Icon box now appears at the top of the Settings page of every Minecraft server.

Alternative: install from the command line

php artisan p:extension:install server-icon-1.0.1.pteroext --enable

Using Server Icon

Upload an icon

Open a server and go to Settings. In the Server Icon box, click the icon or Choose image, or drop an image on the icon. PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF and BMP files up to 10 MB are accepted.

The image is resized to 64x64 in your browser, which is the only size Minecraft shows. Choose how it is fitted:

  • Crop to a square keeps the middle of the image and fills the whole icon.
  • Fit the whole image keeps the full image and leaves the rest transparent.
  • Tick Pixel art to keep sharp edges for pixel art logos.

The box shows a preview of the multiplayer server list with the server name, the MOTD from server.properties (colors included) and the player slots. Click Save to write server-icon.png to the root of the server, or Discard to keep the current icon.

Restart the server

Minecraft only reads the icon when the server starts. Restart the server after saving to show the new icon in the server list.

Remove the icon

Click Remove to delete server-icon.png. After the next restart the server list shows the default icon again.

Permissions

The box requires file.read. Saving an icon requires file.create and file.update, and removing it requires file.delete. Server owners and administrators normally have these permissions; grant them in the server's User editor for sub users.

Managing the extension

Action How
Disable without removing Toggle the extension off, or php artisan p:extension:disable server-icon
Update Install the newer .pteroext over the top from the Extensions page
Remove Click Remove on the Extensions page, or php artisan p:extension:remove server-icon

Notes

  • The Panel checks every saved icon and only accepts a 64x64 PNG.
  • An icon of another size that was uploaded by hand is shown with a warning, because Minecraft ignores it.
  • Saving or removing an icon does not restart the server.
