BuiltByOtte Cloud: Managed Paymenter and Pterodactyl Hosting

BuiltByOtte Cloud is our managed hosting for Paymenter, Pterodactyl and Pelican. You pick the software, a location and the addons you want; we install it, keep it updated, back it up every night and keep an eye on it. You keep full admin access to the panel, without a server of your own to look after. Paymenter, Pterodactyl and Pelican all start at $6.95 a month, and every plan can be tried free for three days.

We built it for the people who already buy our extensions and themes: hosting companies and game server owners who want more time for their customers. Here is what Cloud takes care of, what you can customise, and how to choose the setup that suits your business.

Why we built a managed option

Paymenter, Pterodactyl and Pelican are free software, but running them is a job of its own. The official Paymenter installation guide has you install PHP 8.3 with a list of extensions, MariaDB, nginx and Redis, create a database and user, run the migrations, add a cron entry for the scheduler and set up a systemd service for the queue worker. Pelican's getting started page asks for PHP 8.5 or 8.4, a database and Composer before the panel itself is even downloaded.

None of that is difficult for someone who runs servers every day. For a host who mainly wants to sell, it is time spent on things customers never see, and the work does not stop after the install: updates, certificates, backups and monitoring keep coming back. Cloud takes that part off your hands.

What you get

• Installation: your panel is set up for you on its own address, and you can add your own domain with SSL.
• Global CDN: included with every panel, spanning 125+ countries. Cached images, stylesheets and scripts are served closer to your visitors for faster loading.
• Full admin access: you manage everything from the panel's admin area, and you can upload your own extensions and themes there, just like on your own server.
• One-click updates: before an update we copy the panel. If the update fails, the copy is put back automatically, giving you a way back to the working version.
• Nightly backups: encrypted, kept for 14 days, and restored on request.
• Monitoring: every panel is watched day and night, and the state of every location is public on our status page.
• Isolation: every panel runs in its own sandboxed container, with its own database server and its own storage quota.
• Support: we reply within 24 hours.
• Three locations: Europe (France), United States (Missouri) and Asia (Japan). You can move a panel to another location once every 30 days.

Pricing

Prices are in US dollars, and you can also pay in euros or Australian dollars. No VAT is added.

Our addons can be switched on one by one for $0.95 to $2.95 a month each, and you only pay for what is switched on. If you already own one of our addons, it is included for free. Pay yearly and you get two months free.

For our first ten customers there is a launch offer of 30% off the first twelve months. And every plan can be tried free for three days without a payment method: if you don't choose a paid plan afterwards, the trial simply stops.

Addons, and your own code

The addons you can switch on are the same ones we sell in our store. If you have been running a self-hosted Paymenter with, for example, our Statuspage Addon ($14.49 in the store), you don't pay for it again on Cloud: an addon you already own is included.

Make your panel yours with extensions and themes from your preferred developers. Upload them in the admin area, just like on your own server. We maintain the software and our addons, and you maintain your own code. Nightly backups give you a recovery point if you need one.

Backups and updates, in a bit more detail

Every night your panel is backed up and the backup is encrypted. Backups are stored in the EU, away from the hosting servers, and protected against changes or deletion for 14 days. You can request a restore when you need to recover an earlier version.

Every update starts with a recovery copy of your panel. If the update fails, that copy is restored automatically. Addons are checked during installation too, with incompatible addons taken out again to help keep your panel working.

Your panel has its own database and storage allocation, helping keep its resources separate from other customers. Capacity is planned around the needs of real panels with their addons installed.

Who Cloud is for

Cloud makes sense if you run one or a few panels and your time is better spent on customers than on PHP versions, certificates and backup scripts. It also suits hosts who already use our extensions and want them kept current without doing it by hand.

Choosing a location

Pick the location closest to your own customers, since they are the ones who load your store or panel. A host selling mostly in Europe will want France; one with customers across North America, Missouri; and one with customers in Asia, Japan. If your customer base changes, you can move the panel to another location once every 30 days.

Getting started

On the Cloud page you choose the software, the location, the billing period and any addons. You can pay right away or start the free three-day trial, without a payment method. Once your panel is set up, you can add your own domain with SSL whenever you like.
